HP Remains The No. 1 PC Vendor In The World

Surveys released by research firms IDC and Gartner reveal PC shipments have increased globally about 15 per cent in the third quarter of 2007, with Hewlett-Packard (HP) remaining the leading vendor in terms of shipments.

HP led over Dell as the world’s largest PC supplier in the third quarter of 2007. HP ranks first at 33 per cent.   Dell shipped 3.5 per cent more computers in third quarter but continued to lose ground to HP and other top rivals.

Apple remains at third position with a 7 per cent share of the market.  Other vendors running the race in the US markets are Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba.

Ebay loses $936 million on Skype charges

EBay reported a third-quarter net loss of more than $936 million – a rare plunge into the red for the e-commerce juggernaut caused by charges to its Skype telecommunications division.

But Ebay still easily exceeded expectations for the quarter ended Sept. 30, due to the revenue of $1.89 billion, up 30 percent from the year-ago quarter.

AMD reports $394 million loss

AMD was able to increase its revenues by 18% in the third quarter, but remained deep in the red: The company reported a net loss of $396 million.

AMD said that its revenues increased to $1.632 billion, which translates into 18% growth sequentially, and 23% year over year. Q3 2006, however, did not include revenues generated by the firm’s graphics, chipset and consumer electronics units (ATI).

The net loss was $396 million, an improvement over $600 million net loss reported by the company for Q2 2007.

Microsoft introduces Wiki-Listas

Microsoft Live Labs have recently released their latest technology preview, Microsoft Live Labs Listas, a web-based application tool for the creation, management and sharing of lists, notes, favorites, and other such stuff.

Listas provides you with a WYSIWYG which allows you to quickly and easily create/edit lists and share them with others for read or write – in sense a bit like a wiki.
