Dell Inc. said that it will pay about $1.4 billion in cash to acquire EqualLogic, a company that specializes in data-storage products for businesses.  EqualLogic, based in Nashua, N.H., develops data-storage product for storage-area networks common among data centers.

The purchase marks Dell’s largest-ever acquisition and expands its portfolio of technologies for storing the rapidly increasing amounts of digital information.
