Canon has announced that they are now going to boost production of digital cameras in China.  They are also planning to establish a new laser printer plant in Vietnam.
Both of these initiatives are aimed to meet the growing demand for their products in the developing markets.

Microsoft acquires U-Prove

Microsoft acquired U-Prove technology which allows Internet users to disclose only the minimum amount of personal information while transacting online.
The service also makes use of cryptography to prevent systems from pulling together information about users from various sources.
The two companies did not reveal the financial details of this acquisition deal.

OpenOffice adopts LGPLv3

Sun Microsystems has announced that the open source office productivity suite OpenOffice is now going to be released under the LGPLv3 license to avoid future patent challenges from companies like Microsoft.
Sun Microsystems said upgrading to the LGPLv3 brings important new protections to the OpenOffice.org community, most notably through the new language regarding software patents.

Pioneer to stop manufacturing plasma panels
