Motorola has announced it is going to split into two publicly traded entities next year. Its money-losing handset division would become one firm and the other would be formed from the part of the company that specialises in equipment for cable television and mobile phone networks.

Motorola said the split will “provide improved flexibility, more tailored capital structures, and increased management focus.
