The much-debated open document standard Office Open XML (OOXML) has been approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The result of the voting showed 24 supporting votes by participating national standards bodies allowed to vote, known as “p-members,” versus eight opposing votes.

This translates to a 75 percent approval rating among bodies which cast a vote, greater than the two-thirds approval required for approval by ISO. However, nine national standards bodies who abstained from voting were not included in this calculation.

Another I.T. Executive to Quit Post

Another I.T. executive is quitting his/her post very soon.  In a phone interview, the I.T. executive cited health reasons for his/her decision.

The executive requested that his/her identity be revealed after his/her resignation takes effect.

Indonesia Bans YouTube

The Indonesian government is now seeking a ban on the Google owned YouTube video sharing service.

They are implementing this bad due to a video hosted on YouTube which accuses the Koran of inciting violence.

Indonesia’s information ministeralready contacted Google YouTube to remove the offensive video.

Dell has announced that they are now going to close down their Austin, Texas desktop computer manufacturing plant.

Dell said that they are going to save $3 billion annually over the next three years through this development.

The company had earlier said that they were aiming to cut around 8,800 jobs, or about 10 percent of the work force.

Intel announced that their upcoming Centrino Atom mobile platform would power devices based on both Windows XP and Windows Vista in addition to Linux OS.

The company has said that they are going to call the devices powered by Atom processors Mobile Internet Devices.

Symantec Philippines Country Manager Al Ramon De La Cruz is now with Microsoft Philippines, taking the position of Mid-Market Sales Manager.

Asked why he decided to move, De La Cruz said that it’s time to move on and face new challenges in the corporate world.

De La Cruz worked with Symantec Philippines for 5 yrs and 11 months.
