Gartner reported that more than 1 billion computers are in use today. The report said that the emerging markets are going to show more growth and would help double this number in the next couple of years.

It added that mature markets currently account for 58 percent of the first billion installed PCs.

Gartner predicts that the number would touch 2 billion by 2014.
