AMD introduces New desktop Processors

AMD has announced four new processors aimed at the desktop market.

The new processors are: 2.4-GHz Phenom X4 9750B Quad-Core; the 2.4-GHz Phenom X3 8750B Triple-Core; the 2.9-GHz Athlon X2 5600B Dual-Core and the 2.5-GHz Athlon X2 4850B Dual-Core.

Lenovo Unveils ThinkPad X301

Lenovo announced the ThinkPad X301 notebook PC, taking the thinnest and lightest full-function notebook in its class1, to new heights in performance.

The notebook offers even greater storage capacity with choices of either 64 GB or new 128 GB solid state drive storage available in September. The ThinkPad X301 notebook provides on average nearly 20 percent better performance over the ThinkPad X300 notebook due to the latest DDR3 memory and the latest Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low volt processor2.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have now given their approval to the Microsoft Office Open XML as a global standard.

The ISO rejected the appeal filed by four countries (Brazil, India, South Africa and Venezuela) to protest the vote that approved OOXML as a standard.

Details on Windows 7 Coming in October

Microsoft has stated that they would be revealing some key details on their upcoming operating system in October this year.

Their next edition to Windows Vista is currently codenamed Windows 7 and little is known about this version.

Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 7 in 2010.

Nvidia Jumps on OpenGL 3.0 Drivers

Nvidia announced the release of a new series of drivers, a beta version, which comes with support for the recently unveiled OpenGL 3.0 standard from the Khronos Group. The new drivers are meant to implement the OpenGL 3.0 API and the GLSL 1.30 shading language for both Windows XP and Windows Vista,
and work for selected GeForce and Quadro graphics boards.

The capabilities of the new cross-platform and 3D graphics standard can now be explored by any developer. Nvidia also announced that production drivers for the new OpenGL 3.0 standard will be released as part of its regular driver development program.
