Sun’s MySQL database server is available under a dual licensing model. Developers can choose between an open source community version (licensed under the GPL) or a commercial MySQL license, for ISVs and OEMs that wish to embed or bundle a database with their own products.

In addition, end-user organizations can also subscribe to MySQL Enterprise, a comprehensive offering of production support, monitoring tools and MySQL database software that delivers optimal performance, reliability, security, and uptime.

More than 100 million copies of MySQL’s high-performance open source database software have been downloaded and distributed in its history — and an additional 65,000 copies are downloaded daily.
