Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang to step down

Jerry Yang, the co-founder of Yahoo! will step down as the chief executive of the internet giant.
Yang’s decision to step down follows months of criticism from various quarters on a range of issues including his move to shun Microsoft’s 47.5-billion dollar buyout offer.

Yang and the Board have had an ongoing dialogue about succession timing, and we all agree that now is the right time to make the transition to a new CEO who can take the company to the next level.

Intel Launches Core i7 Processors

Intel officially announced the arrival of its next-gen micro-architecture. Its Core i7 processors are now visible in Dell, Gateway and other PCs that specialize in games and content creation such as videos.

The new Core i7 processors are expected to further strengthen Intel’s market value as they are noticeably faster that Core 2 Duo/Quad processors.

Adobe readies Flash for Mobile

Adobe has been making available a light edition of Adobe Flash for mobile devices. Adobe is also working on bringing the fully functional Adobe Flash technology on mobile devices.

Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch said in a statement: “We are midst of evolving Flash Player 10 for mobile. We’re taking the full Flash Player and making that run on the higher end of the mobile market.”

USB 3.0 specifications released

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group announced the completion of the USB 3.0 specification, the technical map for device manufacturers to deliver SuperSpeed USB technology to the market.
SuperSpeed USB brings significant power and performance enhancements to the popular USB standard while offering backward compatibility with billions of USB-enabled PCs and peripheral devices currently in use by consumers. Delivering data transfer rates up to ten times faster than Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) with optimized power efficiency, SuperSpeed USB is the next step in the continued evolution of USB technology.

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group, comprised of Hewlett-Packard Company, Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Corporation, ST-NXP Wireless and Texas Instruments, developed the USB 3.0 specification.

Enrique Salem to become new CEO of Symantec

Symantec announced that Enrique Salem would replace John Thompson as the new CEO of the company next year.

John Thompson is retiring after working as the CEO for 10 years. Salem would take over his new role in the company on April 4, 2009. He would also become the new member of the company board.
