Medfield is the next Intel Atom Chip

Intel’s netbook roadmap reveals a 32nm Atom successor aka ‘Medfield’ to be released in 2010.

The roadmap indicated that Medfield will integrate the processor and chipset containing the memory and multimedia controllers on to a single chip.

Also, Medfield will incorporate an Intel-designed graphics chip, tailored specifically to the device being manufactured, whether that’s a handheld device, or beefier netbook.

With Medfield, the next generation of netbooks will evolve from basic web page consumption to multimedia consumption including high-definition video.

HP launches Virtual Client Essentials

Hewlett Packard has announced the launch of their rebranded desktop virtualization suite as the HP Virtual Client Essentials.  HP also added Linux support for its broker software Session Allocation Manager.

HP said that the improvements in this suite would allow the users to experience improved video playback in addition to support for USB peripherals such as webcams.  The new offering also comes with an enhanced version of Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol.

AMD announces 45nm desktop CPUs

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced the second batch of processors coming out of its 45nm process technology. The Phenom II is a quad-core family of desktop processors with up to 8 Mbytes of on-board cache.

The AMD Phenom II chips will run at data rates up to 3 GHz. They come both in 65nm versions in an AM2+ socket for DDR2 and 45nm versions using an AM3 socket for DDR2 DDR3 memories running at up to 1333 MHz. AMD said the new chip provide up to 20 percent improvements in performance over the original Phenom CPUs which ran at up to 2.6 GHz.

Facebook videos now embeddable

Facebook is now allowing users to share their videos on third party sites.   Another feature improvement is that the videos quality has been improved to up to 720p.  This enhances the quality of videos if the source is of higher quality.

Another thing about embedding videos is that they retain the privacy settings.  Users can limit on who can see the embedded videos on third party sites.
