Pfizer Inc. is close to an agreement to acquire rival drug maker Wyeth for $68 billion in a cash-and-stock deal that could be announced as early as next week, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Pfizer will pay the equivalent of $50.19 per share for Wyeth – comprising $33 in cash and 0.985 of a share of Pfizer stock for each Wyeth share.
