Samsung unveils first Android handset

Samsung unveils its first Android phone – the I7500 Android cellphone. Tipped over the weekend, the I7500 has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, together with a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen running at 320 x 480.

OPTi wins $19 million from Apple in patent lawsuit

Apple has been found guilty of patent infringement and charged $19m by a court in Texas.
The patent was held by California-based chip manufacturer OPTi Inc and related to a data transfer method, officially called ‘Predictive snooping of cache memory for master-initiated accesses.’

Facebook to open up to developers

Facebook is set to announce a new initiative that will give developers unprecedented levels of information to build games and other such services upon.
The announcement would mean developers could, with user permission, access the photos, videos, notes and comments in order to create more topical and personalised applications.

NEC Electronics and Renesas to merge chip businesses

NEC Electronics Corporation and Renesas Technology Corp are to merge in a major move to consolidate semiconductor operations. The move would create the third largest semiconductor company in the world.
NEC Electronics and Renesas plan to sign an agreement at the end of July, 2009 to integrate their business operations.

AMD set to launch 16 core processors

AMD will launch a 16-core server processor in 2011, according to a new development roadmap released by the company.
The chip, codenamed Interlagos, will arrive in servers with two to four processor sockets, offering the possibility of 64 cores per system.

Microsoft has launched a public beta of their Microsoft pubCenter service. Microsoft pubCenter is the latest alternative to Google AdSense in the market.
The beta is currently open for US residents only and requires the user to submit U.S. tax ID and address.

Google patches Chrome bug

Google has patched a bug in its Chrome browser that allowed attackers to perform cross-site scripting attacks.
An error in handling URLs with a chromehtml: protocol could allow an attacker to run scripts of his/her choosing on any page or enumerate files on the local disk under certain conditions.
