Yahoo has now confirmed that Geocities would be closed down later this year. Yahoo had already closed new accounts on this service. All existing sites hosted on Geocities would disappear by October 26.

Yahoo is advising people hosting sites on Geocities to shift to Yahoo! Web Hosting which is a paid service.
