STI recently celebrated its 26th anniversary with the official inauguration of the institution’s center of academic excellence, the STI academic center located at the heart of Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Standing on a 2,632 square meter lot, the STI Academic Center houses an amphitheater, state-of-the-art gymnasium, highly advanced facilities in information technology, healthcare, business and management, hotel and restaurant management aong with a center of arts for photography, culinary, music and the performing arts. It is also the home of STI College – Global City.

In the years to come, STI is certain to continue pursuing only the best for its students. STI’s President and CEO Monico V. Jacob shares, “as a school, we should keep reinventing ourselves. We have to be in tune with what’s required by the industry. We want to provide students with values critical for real life. Our strength is I.T., but we also breached out to Nursing, Hotel and Restaurant Services, Education and Business Management because these are what the industry requires.”

The establishment of the STI Academic Center is a testament of STI’s commitment to provide quality education for the Filipino youth.

Dell joins smartphone market

Dell has revealed its first smartphone model powered by Google Android mobile platform. It’s called the Dell Mini 3i.

The device features a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 360×640 resolution. Other features include a 3.2MP camera, Bluetooth, a 950mAh battery, a mini USB port and a microSD card slot. No Wi-Fi.

Canon has announced that it has added six new point-and-shoot digital cameras to its PowerShot line. The new cameras include the G11, S90, SX20 IS, SX120 IS, SD980 IS, and SD 940IS.

The G11 and the S90 are both 10-megapixel cameras supporting Canon’s new High Sensitivity System. While the G11 feature a 5X zoom and a fold-out 2.8-inch LCD; the S90 features a fast F/2.0 lens; and a standard 3.8X optical zoom.

The SX20 and the SD980, and SD940 are 12.1-megapixel cameras and record 720p high-definition video. While the SX20 boasts a 20X ultra-zoom for any shooting situation, and a soundless engine for zoom recording; the other two models are essentially for casual photographers.

Canon’s first touch-enabled model SD980 features a 3-inch LCD and a 5X zoom; while the stylish SD940 has a 4x zoom lens.

The SX120 features a 10X zoom lens.

Microsoft appeals against MS Word ban

Microsoft has asked the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to review the injunction made against MS Word.

Microsoft was given 60 days to stop selling Microsoft Word in the US after successful legal action against the company in Texas by software company i4i.

I4i supplies Word XML authoring software and has insisted that Microsoft has infringed its 1998 patent which allows users to read XML programming language in order to customise document formats.

NetApp names new CEO

NetApp announced that its Board of Directors appointed Tom Georgens as the company’s president and chief executive officer, succeeding Dan Warmenhoven, who led the company as CEO for the past 15 years. The transition in leadership, which is effective immediately, is the result of a management succession process.

Georgens, 49, has been president and chief operating officer and a member of the Board of Directors since February 2008. He joined NetApp in October 2005 as executive vice president and general manager of Enterprise Storage Systems and was named executive vice president of Product Operations in January 2007.

Warmenhoven, 58, continues as chairman of the Board of Directors.
