A man was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) last Wednesday, May 25, 2010, for posing as a Microsoft employee from Maryland, USA, and selling counterfeit software to unsuspecting individuals and businesses.
Following a lengthy investigation into his activities, the CIDG has found that a man by the name of Graciano Bolonia Jr., also known as Jun Bolonia, has been operating a sophisticated scam to fool consumers into purchasing unlicensed Microsoft software. Bolonia has been masquerading as a Microsoft employee assigned in the Philippines to introduce users to Windows 7 even prior to the actual launch of the product. Windows 7 is the latest version of the Microsoft operating system introduced in the local market in November 2009.
