In a time of renewed and heightened patriotism, wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) brought together OPM rock legends Ely Buendia, Barbie Almalbis, Rico Blanco, and Raimund Marasigan to re-create the classic Filipino rock song Tayo’y Mga Pinoy.
Making its official on-air and online debut during the 27th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the 3-minute long music video of the Heber Bartolome original showcases the beautiful sights and sounds of the Philippines set in the modern age of modern communication and connectivity.
“There are many things that the Philippines should be proud about and Smart’s fiber-powered network brought them all together into one amazing video,” said Smart EVP and Wireless Consumer Division Head Emmanuel C. Lorenzana.
“We hope that introducing this song to a new generation of Filipinos would remind us how important it is to be connected not only with each other but also to our humble, yet noble roots,” Lorenzana added.
Originally aired as a 30-second TV commercial, the ad raked more than one million views on YouTube 6 days after it was posted online.
Viewers have already touted the once-in-a-lifetime collaboration as the biggest in recent OPM history given the musicians’ diverse and loyal following.
“As a special treat for OPM fans here and around the world, we are also making Tayo’y Mga Pinoy available for free on iTunes and on m.smart.com.ph at no cost to Smart subscribers,” said Lorenzana.
Smart users can also use the full song track as a free Caller Ring Back Tune (CRBT) that is free for five days and renewable for Php 15 for 15 days by texting PNOY to 2728.
