GN Netcom A/S maker of headsets sold under the Jabra brand announced its appointment of Wordtext Systems Inc. (WSI) as its exclusive distributor for Office Headsets in the enterprise market.

WSI will carry the portfolio for office wireless and corded headsets targeting the enterprise market. WSI will carry a wide range of USB headsets and wireless products that will support office deployments of Microsoft Office Communicator, Cisco IP Communicator, IBM Lotus Sametime and other soft phone solutions for the Unified Communications space.

“The partnership with WSI is very timely for GN Netcom is serious in making a mark in the enterprise office headset market” said Mr. Ralph Ede, GN Netcom Regional Managing Director for South Asia.

For his part, WSI President Mr. Juan Chua said the GN Netcom offering will further enhance WSI’s offering in the unified messaging market.

Some of the new headsets unveiled were the Jabra Go 2400 bluetooth wireless headsets, Jabra Biz 2400 corded headset and the Jabra Go 6400 multi-use connectivity and touchscreen functionality.

The new headsets are targeted towards executives and personnel who need to answer landline calls away from their desks, toggle calls from mobile phones and softphones using only a single headset.

Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a spokesman for Allen’s firm Vulcan Inc. said. Allen, who founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975 but later left the company, was previously diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease in 1983, but was successfully treated.

Allen has invested in a number of ventures since leaving Microsoft, including Charter Communications Inc. and the Portland Trail Blazers professional basketball team.

Cisco Systems upped its offer for Tandberg to 170 Norwegian kroner a share, or 19 billion kroner ($3.4 billion) in total. Cisco will also increase the interest payable on the new offer price to 3.0% per annum.

Cisco’s last offer valued Tandberg at around 17.2 billion kroner. The new offer represents Cisco’s final price for this transaction and if this offer does not achieve the desired level of acceptances, Cisco said it will withdraw its new offer and evaluate alternative ways to expand its activities in the video communications market.

Canon Inc is set to takeover Europe’s largest printer manufacturer, Océ for approximately €730 million ($1.1 billion) in an all-cash deal, aiming to create the world’s largest printing entity, benefiting from an excellent complementary fit in product lineup, R&D and business lines.

Canon has given notice to the AFM (Dutch Authority Financial Markets) that it has acquired through market purchases a number of Ordinary Shares representing approximately 16.9% of Océ’s total issued share capital. These Ordinary Shares were acquired by Canon at an average price of € 8.542 (with € 8.56 as the highest price paid) and represent approximately 21.3% of the total Ordinary Shares.

Netherlands-based Océ is one of the world’s leading providers of document management and printing solutions by offering office printing and copying systems, high speed digital printers, wide format printing systems for technical documentation and color display graphics as well as related services and supplies.

NetApp Philippines country sales manager Neil Ocampo has resigned and is now the new country sales manager of RSA Philippines.

NetApp Philippines has made no announcement yet as to who will replace Ocampo.

Researcher Laurent Gaffie discovered a zero-day vulnerability in Windows 7 which basically crashes a Windows 7 system when exploited. The issue is in the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol that forms the backbone of Windows file sharing. When triggered, the flaw results in an infinite loop which renders the computer useless.

The vulnerability actually impacts both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Microsoft said that they are aware of the exploit code can cause a system to stop functioning; and added that it will “continue to encourage responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities.”

A US judge ruled in favor of Apple Inc., in a copyrights violation lawsuit against Macintosh clone maker Psystar Corp. The latter has been charged with both violating Apple’s copyrights as well as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The ruling said Psystar had infringed Apple’s “exclusive right” to come up with “derivative works of Mac OS X”, and original files had been replaced with unauthorized software

Dell confirmed its intentions to get into the smartphone market by announcing its first handset – the Dell Mini 3.

Dell plans to distribute its new Mini 3 smart phones through China Mobile, the largest telecommunications company in the world with more than 500 million customers, and Claro, which serves more than 42 million people in Brazil as part of the America Movil network.

No details were given about the phone except that it will run on the Google-backed Android operating system.

Intel Corporation agreed to settle a long standing dispute with its arch rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc, by paying AMD $1.25 billion as compensation.

On top of the $1.25 billion settlement, both the companies entered into a new 5-year cross license agreement and giving up any violation claims from the previous license agreement.

Intel and AMD said in a joint statement: ”While the relationship between the two companies has been difficult in the past, this agreement ends the legal disputes and enables the companies to focus all of our efforts on product innovation and development.”

According to reports, Google will offer downloads of its Chrome operating system anytime soon.

On Googles Blog, it is stated:

“Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.”
