Google Releases OpenSocial Platform

Google Inc. announced the public release of OpenSocial, an application programming interface to build social applications across the Web.

Google said the tool lets developers “build far-reaching applications that users can enjoy regardless of the Web sites, applications, or social networks they use.”

Google said the sites that have already committed to supporting OpenSocial — Bebo,, Friendster, hi5, Hyves, imeem, LinkedIn, mixi, MySpace, Ning, Oracle, orkut, Plaxo,, Six Apart, Tianji, Viadeo, and XING — represent an audience of about 200 million users globally.
