Mac OS X Leopard gets UNIX certification

The Open Group announced that Mac OS X 10.5 and Mac OS X 10.5 Server have been certified as in conformance with the UNIX 03 standard. The certification is considered a milestone because Mac OS X is the first BSD-based operating system to meet the certification requirements.

The Open Group stated that the certification means Leopard complies with the Unix latest product standard as developed by The Open Group Platform Forum. It also means that Leopard includes a set of standard interfaces that lets developers port standards-compliant applications between Unix variants.

Mozilla Releases Firefox 3 Beta 1

The Mozilla Corporation today released Firefox 3 Beta 1, which is now available for download in a variety of languages.

The beta includes updates to the default theme, the new places site management features, improved security architecture, and Gecko 1.9. Release notes with a more complete list of features, are also available.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Yahoo Inc. said Tuesday they reached a licensing deal that will let users upload music or video files.

The deal also covers music video distribution through Yahoo applications and widgets can be placed by users on other Web sites.
