Storm Worm resurfaces for Valentine’s Day

Posted: January 21, 2008 in Tech

A new Valentine’s Storm worm is attacking the season early with spam e-mails that spread malware.  Websense Security Labs confirmed that the Storm worm has once again switched lure tactics. The worm has now adopted a Valentine’s Day twist in its attempts to infect users with malicious code.

The recent series of Valentine-related attacks follows a trend that capitalizes on holidays and high profile media events which direct a significant amount of traffic to the Web.

The user will receive an email with subject lines such as ‘sent with love’ and ‘falling in love with you’. The content of the email is a single image along with a link to a web page.  Users clicking on the link are prompted to download an executable file containing the malware.
