Video game developer 3D Realms, creators of the “Duke Nukem” game franchise and publisher of others including “Wolfenstein 3D,” has shut down and laid off all employees.

The company, founded in 1987, had spent the last 12 years developing a follow-up title, Duke Nukem Forever. Publisher Take-Two retains rights to the title but said it would no longer fund development of the game.
