Intel to appeal against $1.45 billion EU fine

Posted: May 13, 2009 in Tech

Intel said that it will appeal against the European Commission’s record 1.06 billion euro ($1.45 billion) antitrust fine. The chip maker said it doesn’t believe its practices violated European law and that the Commission ignored or refused to obtain evidence that contradicts its assertions in the decision.

Intel’s President and CEO Paul Otellini said: “Intel takes strong exception to this decision. We believe the decision is wrong and ignores the reality of a highly competitive microprocessor marketplace. There has been absolutely zero harm to consumers. Intel will appeal,” he said.
