New HDMI Cable will connect TVs to the Internet

A new version of the HDMI standard was unveiled defines an HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC), allowing data transfers of up to 100Mbits/sec in either direction.

The HDMI version 1.4 supports an Ethernet channel, allowing TVs to use the digital video links to connect to home networks and the internet.

HDMI 1.4 also includes an Audio Return Channel (ARC), allowing sound to be streamed to an external device.
