Microsoft Philippines announced the availability of a new line of Windows phones that are available in a broad range of styles and prices. People can also connect to a new service that allows them to to back uo and share data from their phone to the web with My Phone.

MyPhone is a free service that helps people manage and back up the invaluable information stored on their phone and provides peace of mind and an easy restore option in the event of a lost or damaged phone. People can also publish their photos from the My Phone website or their phone directly to Windows Live, Facebook, Myspace and Flickr.

During the said launch, handset manufacturers like HTC, CherryMobile and Sony Ericsson paraded their Windows Phone offerings.

Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have pledged $10 billion dollars to support research and access to immunizations worldwide over the next ten years. Gates made the announcement at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, predicts that the plan could potentially prevent nearly 8 million child deaths.

Over the previous 10 years, the Gates Foundation committed $4.5 billion and was instrumental in establishing the GAVI alliance, a partnership that channels money for vaccines in developing nations and has reached 257 million additional children in the ten years since its inception.

The Gates Foundation is the largest philanthropic organization in the world, and previous grants have gone to such organizations as the World Food Program and the United Negro College Fund. He also donated $1.5 million for relief efforts in Haiti. The foundations belief is that every life has equal value and focuses on improving health and to ensure that all people have access to the opportunities they need to succeed.

Google phases out support for IE6

Effective March 1, Google will no longer support the Internet Explorer 6 in all of their sites including Google Docs. The announcement also applies to other older Web browser versions, including Mozilla Firefox 2.0, Apple Safari 2.0 and Google’s own Chrome 3.0.

According to Google, old browser cannot keep up on new developments on the web today. So, they are suggesting that web users should switch to other web browsers such as Internet Explorer 7.0+, Mozilla Firefox 3.0+, Google chrome 4.0+ or Safari 3.0+.
