Kenedi Celik-Director of Strategic Sales,Asia Pacific and Japan Symantec Corporation

From rank 35th last year, Philippines has moved to rank 39th among countries globally on internet threat activities, according to the annual Symantec Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR). According to Asia Pacific and Japan Symantec Corporation’s Director of Strategic sales, Kenedi Celik, the Philippines is moving in the right direction.

Celik said, “Cybercriminals has greatly widened their reach beyond large enterprises, with nearly 20 percent of targeted attacks now directed at companies with fewer than 250 employees. Targeted attacks are a risk for businesses of all sizes- no one is immune to these attacks. Therefore, having a comprehensive security policy and keeping up with industry- standard best practices would go a long way towards ensuring that organizations in the Philippines stay safe in the connected world.” (more…)

Symantec Corp. announced the latest edition of Symantec NetBackup 7.5 to help enterprise organizations overcome their data protection challenges. The current approach to backup modernization offered by other vendors is broken. Data growth has been exponential while backup performance gains thus far have been incremental. At the same time, backup teams are frustrated with missed backup windows and non-integrated solutions for physical and virtual backups, deduplication and snapshots. Ultimately, organizations face a situation where recovery, the end goal of why backups exist, is complex and unnecessarily expensive.

Symantec is delivering a new approach to data protection and introducing NetBackup 7.5 with new options, including NetBackup Accelerator to speed backups by up to 100 times while delivering “Instant Full Recovery” capability, NetBackup Replication Director to integrate NetApp Snapshots with backup, and NetBackup Search to allow simple search and recovery of backup data and selective legal hold. Unlike other backup technology that relies on the IT team to integrate multiple disparate backup solutions, NetBackup is available as a single integrated appliance for the data center, remote office and virtual environments, providing customers with simplified deployment and operations.

Former Cisco Philippines country manager Luichi Robles is now the new country sales manager of security firm Symantec. Robles reports to Mr. Darric Hor who is the country director for both Philippines and Singapore. Prior to joining Symantec, Robles was with BT Consulting services, a provider of I.T. consulting and staffing services.

Reports indicated that there were other candidates being considered by Symantec – including some former managing directors. But Robles was chosen among all the candidates because of his skills, experience and dedication.

Robles assumed his new role mid October, although the news about his appointment circulated as early as first week of the same month.
