Oracle Philippines loses Managing Director

Oracle Philippines is now without a managing director after Francis Ong left his post. Ong took over the helm of Oracle Philippines from Mr. Yashi Kant. Ong served as Oracle Philippines Managing Director for a little over a year.

Oracle Philippines Finance Director Miss Mina Lim was appointed Officer-In-Charge until the company appoints a new managing director.

Ong is now in Australia, still working for Oracle.

Yahoo encourages users to defect to Firefox

Internet Explorer users who visits Yahoo are encouraged by Yahoo to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

IE users will see a message at the top of the site that reads “Yahoo recommends upgrading to the new, safer, faster Firefox 3”. Those who click through are invited to download the special Yahoo edition of Firefox.

Samsung keen on acquiring Sandisk

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. is reported interested in acquiring SanDisk Corp., maker of flash-memory chips. SanDisk is valued at $3.2 billion.

Samsung has reportedly chosen JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) as an advisor for the purchase of the flash memory card maker.

Nokia expects fall in global market share

Nokia Corp. expects its global market share in the current quarter will drop because of aggressive pricing by competitors, but said it won’t change strategy. Its share price plunged 10 percent.

It also blamed heavy competition, including the entry markets, and the temporary impact of a slower ramp-up of a mid-range Nokia device.

Nokia acknowledged the economic gloom would also affect phone sales, but still kept to its prediction that industry volumes will grow 10 percent or more from the approximately 1.14 billion units Nokia estimated for 2007.

Google turns 10

Google celebrated its 10th anniversary of the incorporation of Google Inc last September 7, 2008.

In those 10 years Google has created one of the world’s most valuable brand names, become a verb and proved, during a period when many other online ventures failed, that a highly-profitable business can be created on the internet or as it is often termed, in the cloud.
